Standard Liege had their hosts on the back foot from the start and took an early lead after a ball from the Rangers right was turned in at the front post.
Connor Goldson redeemed himself with an excellent free header to level, but Liege hit back immediately before James Tavernier fired in from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time to send the teams in level.
Rangers were much improved in the second half and Scott Arfield, whose goal against Galatasaray sent Rangers into the groups, sent them into the knock-out stages by converting Ryan Kent’s cut-back for a 3-2 win.
