Pipes upgrade to slow down Glasgow city traffic
Scottish Water says many of the pipes date back to the Victorian era and it plans to replace five miles of network below some of the city’s busiest streets.
The affected roads include George Street, Hope Street, Bath Street, Renfield Street, St Vincent Street, Wellington Street and Sauchiehall Street.

Hide AdScottish Water has promised to keep disruption to a minimum.
Patricia Melly, Scottish Water’s project manager, said: “We will work to complete this important project as quickly and efficiently as possible.
“Some inconvenience is unavoidable during a project of this type but we will do absolutely everything possible to minimise this.”
Geoff Aitkenhead, Scottish Water’s asset management director, added: “This major investment by Scottish Water is great news for Glasgow and will benefit our customers for many years to come.
“It will also help the city as it prepares for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and other major events.”
