Many youths ‘unsuitable’ for workplace
The claim from motoring giant Arnold Clark appears in a hard-hitting report submitted to MSPs and comes after the firm received 2280 apprenticeship applications last year but found 1850 were unemployable.
The company, Europe’s largest independently-owned motor dealer, said the biggest difficulty was apprentices failing to adjust to a full working week after studying 18 hours a week or less in further education.

Hide AdThe report was submitted ahead of a major summit to be staged by Holyrood’s finance committee tomorrow in which politicians and businesses will address the “employability” of the Scottish workforce.
The submission said: “We are increasingly concerned at the state-sponsored babysitting nature of some college programmes.”
