Firefighters were called to the incident in Parkhead Drive, Sighthill, around 5.30pm yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said the fire started in a bedroom and the building was filled with smoke.
“There was a fire in a child’s bedroom on the ground floor. We used a ladder to rescue a 22-year-old female and a 15-month-old baby from the flat above.”
The blaze was quickly extinguished and crews made the block safe before an investigation into the cause of the fire begins.
