Jocky Wilson feature film planned

PLANS are afoot for a feature film detailing the life and times of legendary darts player Jocky Wilson.

Fife native Wilson won two World Darts Championships in 1982 and 1989, and was known for his hard-drinking lifestyle and charismatic manner.

Films of London - a production company founded by two of the producers behind the 2010 version of Robin Hood and the film adaptation of Atonement - announced its first slate of titles set for pre-production, including the darts project entitled Jocky.

Jason Underhill, the company’s founder, said: “We plan to work with the UK’s most talented screenwriters and script developers to devise projects with lasting quality.”

A documentary on Wilson’s life - Kirkcaldy Man - won the Golden Dove award at the Leipzig Documentary Film Festival in 2011.

Wilson became a virtual recluse after his retirement from darts in 1995, and died at home in Kirkcaldy in 2012.
